The Meaning Behind It

Rose Quartz: The Stone That Starts With You

Rose quartz is known as the stone of love — but not in the way most people think. It is not about finding love. It is about remembering that you deserve it. And that part starts with how you treat yourself.

Rose Quartz: The Stone That Starts With You

Let me tell you something about rose quartz that I do not think gets said enough.

Everyone calls it the love stone. And yes — it is. But when people hear that, they immediately think about romantic love. Finding a partner. Attracting someone. And while rose quartz does carry that energy, that is honestly the least interesting thing about it.

The most important thing rose quartz does is turn that love inward.

And for most of us — especially those of us who give a lot, who show up for everyone else, who are endlessly patient and generous with the people we care about — that is the harder direction. Turning it inward. Giving yourself the same tenderness you give everyone else.

That is what rose quartz is really for.

What Rose Quartz Is

Rose quartz is a variety of quartz that gets its soft pink colour from trace amounts of titanium, iron or manganese within the crystal structure. It is one of the most abundant crystals on earth, found on almost every continent — which I find quietly meaningful. Something this gentle, this widely present, this consistently soft in its energy.

It has been used in love rituals and ceremonies for thousands of years — by the ancient Egyptians, the Romans, the Greeks. It has been found in burial sites, carved into amulets, used in beauty rituals. There is something about rose quartz that humans have always recognised as connected to the heart.

Not the romantic heart. The whole heart.

What Rose Quartz Actually Does

Rose quartz works on the heart chakra — the energy centre in the middle of the chest that governs how we give and receive love, how we relate to others, and crucially, how we relate to ourselves.

When the heart chakra is blocked or depleted — which happens when we have been hurt, when we have been giving too much without receiving, when we have been hard on ourselves for too long — we start to close off. We become guarded. We find it difficult to receive kindness, to ask for help, to believe that we are worthy of good things.

Rose quartz gently works against that closing. It does not force anything open. It just softens. It reminds the heart that it is safe to feel. Safe to receive. Safe to be a little kinder to yourself.

I think of it as the crystal equivalent of a long exhale.

Self-Love Is Not What You Think

I want to address this directly because I know the phrase "self-love" can feel a bit much. A bit performative. Like it requires bubble baths and affirmations and a whole personality built around it.

It does not.

Self-love, in the way rose quartz supports it, is much quieter than that. It is the decision to stop speaking to yourself the way you would never speak to someone you care about. It is recognising when you are running on empty and actually doing something about it. It is setting a boundary not because you read that you should, but because you finally believe you are worth protecting.

It is small. Consistent. Unglamorous, mostly.

But it changes everything.

Rose Quartz and Relationships

Here is the thing about working on self-love — it does not just change how you feel about yourself. It changes how you show up in every relationship you have.

When you are full — when you are not running on empty, not seeking validation, not giving from a place of depletion — you love differently. More freely. More honestly. Without the fear and the grasping and the need for reassurance that comes when you have not been taking care of yourself.

Rose quartz supports that. It is not a love spell. It is not going to bring a specific person to you. But it will help you become someone who loves well — starting with yourself — and that changes everything about the love you attract and the love you give.

Rose Quartz in the Blessed Collection

The heart candles in the Blessed Collection are made with rose quartz — and that was a deliberate choice. The shape, the crystal, the intention all point in the same direction: the heart. Your heart.

When you remove the rose quartz from your candle before lighting it, hold it for a moment. Think about what you want to call in — whether that is self-compassion, healing, love in any of its forms. Set that intention clearly and honestly.

Keep the crystal beside you while the candle burns. Return it to the pouch when you are done. Over time, it becomes something that carries your intentions — a small, pink, quietly powerful reminder that you are worthy of the love you so freely give to everyone else.

A Note on Receiving

One last thing.

A lot of people find it easier to give love than to receive it. If that is you — if compliments make you uncomfortable, if you deflect kindness, if you find it hard to ask for help — rose quartz is particularly worth working with.

Not because it will fix that overnight. But because it will keep gently asking the question: why do you find it so hard to let good things in?

That question, asked often enough, starts to change things.

"You cannot pour from an empty cup. But you also have to believe the cup is worth filling."
